Submit an entry to the Chatham 250 Agriculture Photo Contest

 

Get out your cameras and set your sights on Agriculture! The Chatham 250 Agriculture Photo Contest is the perfect opportunity to learn about our amazing farms and farm history in Chatham County. Contestants will upload 1 photo of their choosing and give insight into why you chose this photo in 200 words or less.

 

Dates: Submissions are due on August 1st, 2021

Winners will be announced in September

Attend the Flatwoods Festival in Bennett

 

The Flatwoods Festival is hosted by the Tri-County Ruritan Club and features a grand parade with vintage cars, trucks, tractors, horse-drawn vehicles, musical entertainment, antique farm equipment display, food, crafts, pony rides and more. 

 

Date: Saturday, September 11th, 2021

 

Attend the Chatham County Fair in Pittsboro

 

The annual Chatham County Fair is hosted by the Chatham County Agricultural and Industrial Fair Association. 

 

Dates: Thursday, September 23rd through Sunday, September 26th, 2021. 

Location: 191 Fairgrounds Rd, Pittsboro, NC 27312

Attend Silk Hope Ruritan's Club Old Fashioned Farmers Day

 

The Silk Hope Ruritan’s Club Old Fashioned Farmers Day event is held every Labor Day weekend at the Farm Heritage Theme Park in Silk Hope.  The event features exhibits, activities, and good food.

Visit a Chatham County Farmers Market

 

The Fearrington Farmers’ Market occurs every Tuesday from 4-6PM at 240 Market St Pittsboro, NC 27312. 

 

The Pittsboro Farmers’ Market occurs every Thursday from 3-6PM at 87 East Street.

The Chatham Mills Farmers’ Market occurs every Saturday from 8AM to 12PM at the Historic Chatham Mills in Pittsboro.

 

Attend the Huckleberry Trail Farm Fall Festival 

 

The Huckleberry Trail Farm Fall Festival will have a corn maze, a tractor-drawn hayride, a real pumpkin patch (cut your own pumpkin right off the vine!), cotton patch, and a mini Field of Dreams. One admission price gives you access to all the fun! Purchase your tickets on the Huckleberry Trail Farm website. 

 

Dates: September 25th to October 31st on Saturdays from 10AM - 6PM and Sundays from 1PM - 6PM

Sample a peach at Howard's Farm and Mema's Fruit Shack

 

Howard's Farm and Mema’s Fruit Shack grows all their own produce. They are known for their Peaches, but also have pick your own blueberries and grow a variety of summer veggies. Don’t forget to try Mema's Homemade Ice Cream and to check out their thrift store.

Visit the Pollinator Garden at Chatham Mills, in-person/virtually

 

The Pollinator Garden is a demonstration garden created by Agriculture Agent Debbie Roos of the Chatham County Center of North Carolina Cooperative Extension. The garden features over 225 species of perennials, trees, shrubs, vines, and grasses, and 85% of them are native to North Carolina. Visit the gardens at the Chatham Mills complex in Pittsboro and or watch a virtual tour of the pollinator garden.

Meet cats and goats Goathouse Refuge (visits by appointment only).

 

Visit with Alpacas at M&M Alpaca Farms (in-person tours; reservations required). 

 

Meet livestock at the Carolina Stockyard

 

Tour and explore at Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge (in-person tours; pre-purchased tickets required). 

 

Cheer on Chatham County 4H Contestants at the NC State Fair

Visit the Carolina Stockyard 

 

The Carolina Stockyard has been serving the Livestock Industry of Chatham County for 70 years. Visit the Stockyard to watch a livestock auction and/or to grab a delicious burger at the Carolina Stockyard Restaurant

 

Location: 260 Stockyard Road Staley, NC 

Restaurant hours:  Monday from 10AM - 9PM, Tuesday from 10AM - 9PM and Friday from 8AM - 11PM.
