Join the Chatham Community Library for a series of lectures on the history of communities of color in Chatham County, starting with a lecture by Professor Charldes Johnson (NC Central University) titled From Slavery to Freedom: A History of African Americans in Chatham County.

Take a self-guided tour of the Historical Markers in Chatham County
Chatham County has 16 state-recognized historical markers in various locations throughout the County highlighting significant people or events in Chatham County’s history. You will know that you have found a historical marker if it is silver and black with brief sentences in large font with the state seal.

Visit the Chatham County Historical Museum
Soak up some of Chatham County’s history by visiting the Chatham County Historical Museum located in the Historic Chatham County Courthouse. The museum includes archival collections accessible to researchers, a museum gift shop, tours and programs..
Hours: Wednesday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Submit something to include in the Chatham 250 Time Capsule
The Official Chatham 250 Time Capsule will include items representing current events and the way of life of Chatham County in its 250th year, 2021. The Time Capsule will be sealed at the conclusion of Chatham 250 in Fall 2021 and it is not to be opened again until Chatham County’s 300th year, in the year 2071.

Visit Southern Supreme in Bear Creek
Southern Supreme has been a Chatham County favorite for sweets and holiday treats for over 30 years. The company is a family-owned business that has been featured in various magazines and newspapers for their famous fruitcakes. On top of fruitcakes, they also sell nuts, candy, chocolates and jelly.

Attend "Remembering Chatham County Black History" a virtual program hosted by Community Remembrance Coalition-Chatham and Chatham NAACPs
This day-long event celebrating African American/Black History in Chatham County will occur on Saturday, September 18th. It will be hosted by the Chatham Community Remembrance Coalition. More details coming soon!

Attend a County Commissioner or Town Council meeting
The Chatham County Board of Commissioners meets on the third Monday of the month, and sometimes on the first Monday of the month. The time and location vary depending on the agenda items and meeting dates. Learn more about Chatham County Board of Commissioner meetings.
The Town of Siler City’s Board of Commissioners meets on the first and third Monday of each month at 6:30 PM in the Courtroom at City Hall. Los Jets is a television documentary series produced by Jennifer Lopez for NUVOtv based on Siler City. This is the real story of Los Jets, a North Carolina high school soccer team composed entirely of Latino young men whose parents immigrated here in search of a better life. Based on A Home on the Field by Chatham’s own Paul Cuadros, the “Los Jets” docu-series puts a human face on the Hispanic/Latinx immigrant communities in the American South.

Visit the Tiny Homes at Farm @ Penny Lane
The Farm at Penny Lane, located on 40 acres in northern Chatham County, uses a holistic and sustainable approach to enhance the quality of life of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness by offering opportunities to become healthier and more self-sufficient. Our major goals includes: maximize social, cognitive, physical, and psychological functioning of participants; enhance the general health and wellness of individuals; facilitate entrepreneurship for program participants; and break down barriers in the community and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.
