We invite you to be a part of history and submit time capsule items at Founding Day!

As part of  Founding Day and throughout the Chatham 250 celebration, volunteers will be collecting items for inclusion in the official Chatham 250 Time Capsule. The Time Capsule will include items representing current events and the way of life of Chatham County in its 250th year, 2021. The Time Capsule will be sealed at the conclusion of Chatham 250 in Fall 2021 and it is not to be opened again until Chatham County’s 300th year, in the year 2071.

Suggested Items

  • Current Menus from Chatham County eating establishments

  • Chatham Business advertisements/brochures/business cards

  • Chatham County Churches – cookbooks / bulletins / directories

  • Chatham Civic Organizations – brochures/flyers

  • Write your own movie, music, or book review for 2021 releases 

  • Photos depicting life today in Chatham County with description and names

  • Invitations for events including business functions, weddings, birth announcements and the like. 

  • Lists of the Top 10 Songs, Books and Movies in 2021

  • 2021 Stamps & Coins 

  • Biographies or Personal Letters

  • Letters from school age children to their future self 

  • Letters from adults to the future leaders of Chatham County

Tips & Requirements

  • Time Capsule donations should be accompanied with names and dates. 

    • For photographs of people, please list names with the order of persons pictured, location of the picture and the approximate date the picture was taken. 

    • For photographs of imagery or scenery, please list name of the location, the current address (as applicable) and the approximate date the picture was taken.

  • Any items that may be deemed hazardous or flammable will not be accepted. 

  • Item are required to be less than  48 in x 34 inch

Please note that all items collected are to be considered donations and upon its opening in 2071, all property inside the time capsule will be transferred to the Chatham County Historical Association, or future successor.  Any items that may be deemed hazardous or flammable will not be accepted.
